Cognitive Linguistics

I was first drawn into the sciences, right after I finished graduate school, by the power of Lakoff and Johnson’s conceptual metaphor theory as a tool for comparative work, and then by the explanatory beauty of conceptual blending theory (Fauconnier and Turner). My first monograph and much of my early work was focused on introducing these aspects of cognitive linguistics to my colleagues in religious studies, philosophy and area studies, and also connecting cognitive linguistics to insights coming out of behavioral neuroscience, particularly the work of Antonio Damasio.
